Everyone responds differently to caffeine. We recommend testing these in training before race day. Not because they won't work, but because the response is individual. Timing matters too: take it about 60 minutes before you want to feel the peak effect.

We built the original Fruit Bar as complete fuel—real ingredients, great taste, reliable performance—but we kept hearing from racers and hard-training athletes: what if we added caffeine?

The challenge was clear: how do we add caffeine without compromising the taste, texture, or digestibility that makes these bars special?

These still taste like real fruit, not a supplement.

Same 25g carbs. Same real fruit pulp. Same melting texture. Same digestibility. The Performance bars are the classic XACT Fruit Bars with one addition: caffeine for athletes who race hard and need that edge.

Not every session needs caffeine. Not every athlete responds the same way. But when you're racing, when you're pushing for a breakthrough, when you need focus and aggression, this is the fuel that delivers.

How much caffeine do you actually need?

Caffeine is ergogenic (make you faster) at doses of 3–6 mg/kg body weight. Here's the snack math:

At 120 lbs (54 kg):

  • Lower end: 54 × 3 = 162mg caffeine
  • Upper end: 54 × 6 = 324mg caffeine
  • That's 3–6 Performance Fruit Bars

At 180 lbs (82 kg):

  • Lower end: 82 × 3 = 246mg caffeine
  • Upper end: 82 × 6 = 492mg caffeine
  • That's 5–10 Performance Fruit Bars

Each Performance Fruit Bar delivers 50mg of caffeine, so your optimal dose depends on your body weight and how you respond to caffeine. Start at the lower end, test in training, and adjust based on how you feel.

Peak effects timing: Caffeine begins working within minutes, but peak effects arrive 30–120 minutes post-consumption. Standard practice: take it 60 minutes before you want maximum benefit. This matters for race strategy so dose accordingly.

No, caffeine doesn't meaningfully dehydrate you.

The myth persists. Research shows there's no consequential increase in fluid loss from caffeine during exercise. Hydrate normally; caffeine doesn't change the math.

Timing is everything with caffeine:

  • Caffeine takes 30–120 minutes to peak, so take it about 60 minutes before you want to feel the full effect
  • In a race, this might mean taking one bar at the start if you want peak caffeine around 1hr into the race
  • In training, experiment to find your optimal timing

Dosing:

  • 50mg of caffeine per bar (equivalent to roughly half a cup of coffee)
  • The caffeine dose is ergogenic at 3–6 mg/kg of body weight—most athletes fall well within this range

Real talk on caffeine response:

  • Everyone's different. Your caffeine tolerance, body weight, and sensitivity all affect how you experience it
